The Bookshelf

Contained within are my thoughts on the books I’ve been reading. I’ve got a few books that I’m reading right now, and one that is beautifully breaking my heart. If there are books that you would like to recommend, books that are your favorites, or ones that you have that all-too-familiar love-hate relationship with, then put them in the comments below.

There’s one book that I read a long time ago that has always stuck with me. A coming of age tale from a time long past, in which a boy saves his pennies to order two blue tick coon hounds that would become his best friends. The tale of Old Dan and Little Anne.

I read that one when I was much, much younger. It was one of my favorites, too. I have to admit, however, that my all-time favorite is A Separate Peace by John Knowles. There is something raw and biting in the idea of looking back into the past at something as vicious and cruel as growing up can be, and though I never was in the main character’s circumstances, the feelings that are portrayed are very relate-able, even the hurtful parts that most people try to gloss over.
